home

My absence from blogging, twitter, facebook and good-old-fashioned hanging out has been directly related to the amount of projects I have going on right now. I finally moved the rest of my possessions from Columbus to Philadelphia last weekend, but I’m still living in a pile of boxes and clothes as I make myself a new home.

Freelance has picked up and I find myself busier than ever, which is good, but I need a break, big time! I love when things kick into gear and Fall always seems to change things up, but I’m most excited to finally have a space that is mine, a home for all my patterned papers and paintbrushes and the oversized printer that is sitting on the floor right now. It will feel so good to finally make myself at home.

So please excuse this brief absence as some changes are happening. I’ll be back soon!

Decorating your Roost

The Fall always gets me in a nesting mood and with the chance to finally choose pieces that will stay in one place for more than a few years, I’ve begun my search for the perfect furniture and special vintage finds. These photos of Caitlyn’s Roost home really inspired me to go back to the simplicity of good design and beautiful finds and how a few pieces can make a room feel like home. (I love all of the birdcages!) I’m ready to go shopping now.

Nice Digs: Colonie Restaurant, Brooklyn Heights

I love these shots from Colonie Restaurant in Brooklyn Heights. The wall greenery, wooden planks on the ceiling and vintage style desk chairs is such an authentic mix with their rustic branding. More photos are available on Knstrct and if you’re in the mood for all sorts of other gorgeous interiors, check out the rest of their site as well!

Let’s Party! (part three)

{ fresh asparagus, my ring as I cut cucumber, our pink champagne soda bottles
and a grilled cheese and tomato soup dish }

As promised, the final round of pictures from the party. The menu consisted of items from my inspiration board and I loved serving the grilled cheese with the Tomato Parmesan soup from the Souper Market in Clarissa’s bright teacups and saucers. And again, a HUGE thank you to Clarissa Westmeyer for all of her gorgeous photography. She made my birthday one not to be forgotten!

Here are part one and part two if you missed it and now I promise not to milk my birthday any longer. Well… until next year.

DIY: Painted Storage Jars

I’m a messy creative. There. I said it. I make messes, work in messes and can’t seem to ever keep myself organized because I’m already on to the next project. My number one resolution this year has been to get organized and have a workspace that not only helps me work faster, but is clean and inspiring so that I want to work in it. While researching different ideas, I came across this DIY Painted Pastel Jars by Kootut Murut and thought it’d be a great solution to my collection of colored pencils, paint brushes, sharpies and who knows what else. I love how light and airy they are and will put this one on my to-do list. Well… after I clean off my desk!

Shows to love: Secrets of a Stylist

I’ve become highly addicted to Emily Henderson’s Secrets of a Stylist on HGTV. With a style diagnostic of each couple, she combines two styles that normally wouldn’t work well together to make something unique, tasteful and perfectly them. Emily uses lots of vintage stores and one of a kind pieces, which I love, and she also isn’t afraid of color. You can watch full episodes online or on HGTV on Saturday nights, and you can get inspiration in her portfolio. Now I’m taking this inspiration and running with it!

Crafted Systems

These beautiful felt sculptures by Crafted Systems caught my eye. I love the red felt and how intricate the patterns are. How do they do it?!

Let’s Party! (part one)

{ kitchen, living room, straws, paper flowers, table }

As promised, I want to share some party inspiration from the birthday weekend I had with my girlfriends in Cleveland. Like any picture-obsessed designer, I had to create inspiration boards to hone in on what I was looking to accomplish in two days time. I couldn’t have done it without my friend, Clarissa Westmeyer, whose love of vintage and lovely home created the perfect atmosphere for the weekend. She was so fantastic (and a great cook!) and I couldn’t have made it happen without her. Thank you, Clarissa!

So here are the inspiration boards I made for the weekend starting with the colors. I like to use inspiration boards as a jumping-off point and don’t feel bound to them when I’m making something. They serve me well to get ideas flowing but I love it when an idea or something unique I find can take me down another path to something better.

Workspace: Ricardo Bofill

What a remarkable transformation of an old cement factory into Ricardo Bofill’s workspace. I’m not sure how I’d feel about sitting under one of the huge colanders while at the meeting table, but the space is so striking I think I’d get over it. You can view more photos of the transformation on Yatzer.

New York Social Diary: Paula Scher

A wonderful interview and intriguing look into Paula Scher’s home on the New York Social Diary. Paula is such an icon for both the design industry and as a successful woman in business, I admire her work and thoughts more than I can say. Read her full interview and see more of her designerly home on the New York Social Diary.
