rain, rain

The forecast for the next week or so? Rain. I guess it’s time to embrace it and get out my umbrella and rainboots!

Elle Decor’s Modern Life Concept House

Can I tell you how hard it is to shop for a house and keep a guy in mind? I’ve been searching for inspiration as I start to mold my glass vases, floral trays and filigree mirrors into a house with my future hubby and I. When I stumbled upon Elle Decor’s Modern Life Concept House on From Me To You, I realized that there IS a compromise out there that works for both of us.

I love how warm this space feels and the shag rug with the metal coffee table, mechanical looking lights and did you see the backsplash?? The use of wood with pops of yellow suit my aesthetic and the vintage found pieces and darker furniture feel masculine but still very homey. I love it and will definitely be sharing these inspirations before I start my next shopping trip.

nice work: Ed McGowan’s Project 365

If ever a 365 day project to inspire you, Ed McGowan’s 2009 set is one to beat. Capturing peaceful, playful moments and using the tiniest bits of typography, I easily spent two hours on his flickr searching through 365 days. It’s also a great place to waste time as you are waiting for the weekend to get here. Happy Friday!

a well dressed man: Joseph Gordon Levitt

There’s nothing sexier than a well-dressed man. Well, he should smell good, too. I love Joseph Gordon Levitt’s style, especially in these shots.

Sometimes you just need to hear that even when you screw up, there’s a whole world of possibilities ahead of you.

Sleep Box

If you’ve ever had to deal with a four hour layover, overnight stay in the airport or curled up while waiting for a never-ending delay, you’ll appreciate the Sleep Box.

“Designed by Russian architecture firm Arch Group, the Sleepbox is almost exactly what it sounds like: a seven-feet-deep, nine-feet-high pod made for people on the go to sleep in. Beds (a maximum of three), bedside tables, electrical outlets, and reading lamps come standard in the Sleepboxes, but they can also be outfitted to include WiFi, televisions, and an alarm clock. In all, they’re cozy little temporary homes to use until you reach your real home.”

This genius idea is already in Moscow and my god, I hope they come to us soon!

weekend reading

There have been a lot of great articles floating around the internet this week and I thought I’d share a few of the ones that I found very much worth reading. This cold weather has me curling up with a cup of coffee and my books and my instapaper when I’m on the go. It’s the perfect time to catch up on reading!

Have a great weekend!

Decorating your Roost

The Fall always gets me in a nesting mood and with the chance to finally choose pieces that will stay in one place for more than a few years, I’ve begun my search for the perfect furniture and special vintage finds. These photos of Caitlyn’s Roost home really inspired me to go back to the simplicity of good design and beautiful finds and how a few pieces can make a room feel like home. (I love all of the birdcages!) I’m ready to go shopping now.
